Team Calpine runs the Houston Marathon

Team Calpine Runs for a Reason at the Houston Marathon

Houston, TX Marathon Fundraising Results and ALZ Charity Support with Team Calpine

If you were one of the 250,000 estimated supporters lining the paths of the the annual Houston Marathon and Half Marathon, you watched nearly 27K people in running gear winding through the streets of Houston on January 14, 2018.

The annual event was a perfect example of why runners look forward to January in Houston. The early morning brought crisp and cold temperatures and a record setting course for the spotlight on Houston.

While there were new records set for fastest times, the Calpine Corporation cheering tent was on-site focused on supporting the many runners, employees and volunteers of the Champion Energy Services hometown. Team Calpine fielded 56 runners with 26 coming from out of town to participate.

While the Team Calpine athletes were running and focused on the finish line, they know they were also raising funds and awareness via the Run For a Reason Charity program. The program connects race participants to a philanthropic cause to raise funds and offers race registrations through the Hero Registration. This year Team Calpine worked together and selected their proceeds and efforts be directed as a group to one of the official charities, the Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter of Alzheimer’s Association. ALZ is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research. Team Calpine donated over $27,000 raised by the Houston based team. The Calpine sidewalk cheering and support tent was shared on race day by both Calpine and ALZ volunteers encouraging runners to keep their pace.

4 Energy Saving Tips to Gobble up this Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is only a few short weeks away. While we can’t help with the cooking, we can provide you some energy saving tips. Check out the below tips and start using them today in preparation for the holiday.

  • Large guest list? Before your guests start arriving, lower the temperature of your thermostat by a degree or two. Large groups of people naturally generate heat so give your heating system a break.
  • One trip only. Double check your ingredients list for the meal before you open the fridge. Opening the door multiple time lets out more air and forces the compressor to work harder.
  • Keep it closed. Stop opening the door to check on your turkey and turn on the oven light. Each time you open the oven door you lose a significant amount of heat forcing you use the oven longer.
  • Cool it down. Before adding that steaming hot appetizer to the fridge, allow it to cool down first. This is let the fridge do its thing without needing to work overtime.

Champion Energy: A Message Regarding Hurricane Harvey

Fellow Texans,

For many of us, the days since Hurricane Harvey made landfall have been among the most difficult of our lives. We have all seen homes damaged or destroyed. Even worse, some of us have lost loved ones.

While it’s always saddening to hear about a natural disaster or tragedy occurring somewhere in the world, this is different. Texas is our home. Both Champion Energy and our parent company Calpine are headquartered in Houston, and many of our employees and families have been affected by this storm.

Texans are strong and resilient people. Many of you have put yourselves in harm’s way helping your neighbors. The news coverage seen around the globe has shown the world how we care for one another and the risks we are willing to take for total strangers in need. The world has seen our resolve and we are not done helping each other yet. We will get through this disaster and we will lift each other up to rebuild, just as we have in the past.

Champion Energy started in Houston so it is no surprise that roughly half of our residential customers live in the greater Houston area and along the Gulf Coast. You’ve been there for us. We are here for you.

For our part, Champion Energy is donating $250,000 to the American Red Cross – Texas Gulf Coast Region for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in our community. Moreover, we are committed to working with you through this hardship by waiving late fees and extending payment terms to anyone affected by Hurricane Harvey. And we’re doubling our donation match to the Power Partners fund to $2 for every $1 donated, matching up to $10,000 per individual donor.

I am a Texan and have lived here most of my life. Like you, I know what we’re made of; now the rest of the world does, too. While grieving over what has been lost, I am certain that Houston and the Texas Gulf Coast will remain the strong and vibrant community we love.
