Tips to Prepare for Natural Disasters

Natural disasters can interrupt our lives at any time. It’s important to be prepared and have a plan in place in case your family experiences one of these emergencies. Below are 3 tips to help you prepare.

Learn the Natural Dangers Known to Your Area. For example, places like Texas or Oklahoma are known to experience tornadoes, heavy storms, and flooding. It’s important to be ready for anything that Mother Nature might throw your way.

Plan ahead for your pets. While planning ahead, don’t forget to include your furry family members also! Finding a safe space protected from rain and wind is one way to help save your pet’s life in case of a natural disaster. If you are forced to leave your pets behind, ensure they have plenty of food, water, and you have a plan to check on them as soon as it’s safe.

Avoid last minute shopping for supplies. To avoid the busy store rush, stock up in advance with bottles of water, nonperishable food, and extra clothing. Having supplies ready in the case of a natural disaster will put you a step ahead of the crowd.  Check out this great “hurricane shopping list” that Lewis Food Town put together:
